I am running to be the Ward 2 Representative on Canandaigua’s City Council for the same reasons I have made Canandaigua my home - the lake, the neighborhoods, the schools, and ability to buy a house and raise a family. As a representative on the City Council, my priorities are to keep Canandaigua a place where others will choose to come, to visit and to live.

I have been a resident of Canandaigua since 1991, when my wife and I needed to move from Rochester to be closer to her new teaching job in Seneca Falls, and I’ve lived in Ward 2 since 1995. When deciding where to relocate, Canandaigua was an easy choice. We’ve considered moving a couple of times, but we could never bring ourselves to leave our adopted home.

I teach Special Education and English at Mynderse Academy in Seneca Falls. I am active in the teacher’s union - I am currently my association's vice president, but I have also served as Parliamentarian, chair of our Grievance Committee, and a representative to NYSUT and NEANY. I have also recently been hired as the coordinator for seniors in our Multi Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) program. I have been a Commissioner  on the Canandaigua City Planning Commission for several years.  I  have been a certified swim official for several years and am currently serving as Vice President of the Finger Lakes Chapter of New York State Certified Swimming Officials. I have previously been a soccer and softball official for Canandaigua teams at the modified level. For several years my daughter and I were part of the folk group at St. Mary’s Church.

As Ward 2 Representative on City Council, I will do all I can to:
  • protect the greatest asset our city has - Canandaigua Lake - by keeping it healthy and clean for future generations of visitors and residents
  • attract families to our city, make it possible for them to move here, and encourage them to stay here by providing the greatest value of services while maintaining the fiscal responsibility that has kept Canandaigua’s taxes lower than most cities of similar size
  • maintain a balance between Canandaigua’s historic nature and the economic stability required by small businesses and homeowners. My time on the Planning Commission has increased my understanding of how important (and how difficult) maintaining that balance can be and my years of leadership experience have prepared me to help move our city forward.
