When my wife Lauren and I moved to Canandaigua in 2014, we were drawn to its natural beauty, the sense of community, and its overall livability–it has surpassed all of our expectations of being “The Chosen Spot” and a wonderful place to live and start a family. I have served as the Ward 4 Representative on Canandaigua City Council since 2019 and will be seeking reelection in November. With the recent birth of our daughter Hazel, I have an even stronger desire to see that this city reaches its full potential by continuing to make improvements that will benefit generations to come.
I have a Master's degree in Childhood Education and Special Education from St. John Fisher University, and am a Special Education teacher at Wayne Finger Lakes BOCES. I will be completing the Education Leadership Program at the University of Rochester this Spring. When I’m not teaching, you will find me bicycling and walking around town, kayaking on the lake, hiking, or busy designing and building outdoor spaces for the small business that I run. Prior to my career in Education, I studied landscape architecture at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry. Along with my upbringing, my studies there instilled in me an appreciation for the natural world. I am a volunteer member of Climate Smart Canandaigua because I feel strongly about the need to act on environmental issues. During my tenure on City Council, I have helped guide the City through the COVID crisis, been part of passing three successful budgets that have maintained or improved services while minimizing increases in City tax rates, seen through multiple infrastructure projects, spearheaded environmental initiatives, and protected our public land and viewsheds from private interests. I am proud of these successes and look forward to continuing the momentum in my next term. The opportunities I have had to connect with community members and bring their voices to City Council have been some of the most rewarding experiences while serving thus far. We are all lucky to live in such a beautiful place. I have a deep passion for this community and the residents in it. I believe that representative leadership is extremely important and I will approach my next term with the same care and commitment as the first term. |
