Doug Merrill for Canandaigua City Council
[email protected] Doug Merrill currently serves as a City of Canandaigua Councilmember-at-Large, having been appointed in August 2023 to fill a vacancy. He is running in a special election this November to continue in the role for another year. Doug brings a strategic lens to council that was developed during a 40-year career in academia. He earned a Ph.D. from SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry at Syracuse University before joining the faculty of Rochester Institute of Technology, where he taught courses in biology and biomedical sciences while also gaining valuable administrative and leadership experience. Upon retiring in 2020, he redirected his efforts toward community service. As a member of City Council, he is able to apply the skills and expertise he acquired during his long academic career to benefit the residents of Canandaigua.
